A series of paintings inspired by the Hubble Space Telescope
These large scale oil paintings were a response to the awe inspiring images captured by the Hubble telescope. I agree with the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins " The earth is charged with the grandeur of God". I often paint alla prima with a painting knife and thick layers of paint but these paintings seemed to call for something else. I built them up translucent layer upon layer, with some final thicker layers of paint for texture and interest. I think it is the drama in nature which appeals to me, crashing seas, rugged mountains and the mind blowing immensity of space
